2017 Resolution Recap: WIP-Busting
At the start of 2017, I made it my goal to whittle down my WIP (work in progress) pile. I started the year off with approximately 10 WIPs. In this post, I will review whether I accomplished this goal and projects that I finished.
The Year of WIPs
At the start of the year, I had about 10 WIPs. While I know I'm not alone in having suffered as a chronic starter, I found myself starting to get really stressed out about all of the projects I had up in the air. I flittered from piece to piece depending on my feelings of the day, so I resolved to cutting this clutter out and hammering through what I had already started.
At the start of the year, here is a list of the projects I had started and their status as of now:
- Pooping Unicorn - Finished!
- This one was a pattern created and given to me by a friend.
- Books Are a Uniquely Portable Magic - Finished!
- For sale now in my shop.
- Skyrim Quest Marker - Finished!
- Pattern available upon request.
- 8bitstitching's Harry Potter Stitch-Along - Finished!
- I was participating in the current Stitch-Along. I kept up-to-date with it while it was going on, so I was hesitant to count this as a WIP since there's only so much you can do. But I'm glad that I kept up with it!
- Pixel Hearts - Finished!
- For sale now in my shop.
- Olive You - Finished!
- For sale now in my shop.
- 8bitstitching's Eeveelution Stitch-along - Finished!
- I purchased this almost at the conclusion of the Stitch-Along and had set this aside for quite a long time. It still hasn't been framed (it's actually rolled up with the Harry Potter piece), but I promise I will frame it eventually!
- No Man's Sky Logo - Umm... in the trash...
- Umm yea... so that happened. I did not want to fill this in. I started this piece leading up to the release of the game but once I saw how disappointed I was in the game I gave up on the cross stitch. I decided that I didn't want to resent the whole process and I never wanted to hang it up, so rather than waste materials I decided to pitch the whole thing. I have no regrets!
- Pallet Town - Finished!
- This was the very first pattern that I designed! And started! And if you can believe it I stopped stitching it because I realized that all your stitches need to face the same way... in the middle of stitching it. Once I realized this I could not look at all those wavy lines created from stitches going all different ways. So I set it down. But I decided to finish it anyway. It's now a living momento of my stitching knowledge journey.
- Phrenology Chart - Finished!
- Phew. This puppy took me such a long time to finish and it was my longest standing WIP, but this year I hit a serious rhythm with it, powered through, and finished and framed it. I couldn't be happier! It's probably my favorite finish of this year.
So was I successful in whittling down my WIPs? Maybe. I'm down from 10 to 3. Here are my current WIPs:
- Super Mario World Map
- Treachery of Pixels by CrafterDark
- Charizard
I anticipate that the Super Mario World Map is going to take me years to complete. 2017 was a year of WIP-busting, and I look forward to my next goal of 2018, which will be stash-busting! Stay tuned for more information on where I am with my stash, so that when I update it next year I can share with you how far along I've come along.
